Feeling like a bundle of nerves and fear, I look at myself in my bathroom mirror. Am I really getting paired today? Did I really just go through a pairing engagement to a female who is not my true mate? A true mate was rare enough to find as it was, and somehow Meira fell into my life, devouring my heart and soul. Now I feel like I am betraying her. My heart feels like it is ripping apart. My soul yearns for her; the only female that I can truly feel whole with.

The memories of the night before last, plague my mind as I stare at myself; the mirror reflecting a male desperate for salvation from a life of misery. I’m dressed in my pairing suit, black with a white open neck shirt. My hands clench the sink in front of me, and I’m unsure if I am going to vomit or not. The morning’s commotion outside my room and down the corridor quietens. I conclude that Valeria is finally ready and is waiting downstairs for me.

I think about yesterday when there was still hope in my heart. Oh, how I wish it was yesterday again! When I still had time. I had gone to Valeria’s room early that morning intending to talk through the cancellation plans for the next day’s nuptials.
